Newspaper article for the Body Walk : The Ridgeview Review
4/15/08

EAT SMART. PLAY HARD. Learning healthy lifestyles. That’s the primary focus of the Body Walk-- a fun, educational, interactive, walk-through tour of the human body that approximately 250 Ridgeview Elementary students experienced recently.

This Illinois Body Walk, created by the Illinois Nutrition Education and Training (NET) program and implemented by Illinois Wesleyan University Community Health nursing students, Ridgeview Jr High Student Council members, and several high school seniors featured an eleven-station body review---from brain to mouth, stomach, small intestine, heart, lungs, bones, muscles and leaving the body through a cut in the skin. Parent volunteers assisted also. This teens-teaching-kids initiative involved engaging students in educational activities regarding nutrition & physical activity at each station. This exciting tour of the body provided children with a memorable way to build health behavior skills.

Special thanks to these students for their creative efforts & leadership: Elly Stump, Carrie Carlton, Sarah Maurer, Tad Dieken, Hallie Johnson, Rusty Jo Robbins, Megan Jones, Cole Winterland, Arden Snell, Matt Barnes, Thomas Grinton, Adam Jones, Trevor McIntosh, Treavor Taylor, and Becky Carlton. Also thanks to parent volunteers: Ashleigh Hofmann, Kay Bose, Christie Wissmiller, and Amanda Jassman.
