Update

August 2, 2022

Good Afternoon,

It’s been a little over a week since we sustained water damage, and a week since my last update. A great deal of progress has been made, but there is still a lot that needs to be done. I appreciate everyone's patience as we have worked through this situation. It has delayed some “beginning of the school year information”, but we hope to be back on track by next week.

To start, we have been able to reoccupy the elementary portion of our building this week. We are still without power in the Junior and Senior High School. However, we hope to have power restored in the next couple of days.  This entire project can be broken down into three phases:

  • Phase I - Water removal

  • Phase II - Removal or cleaning of contaminated materials and deep cleaning of the space.

  • Phase III - Reconstruction and restoration

We have completed Phase I, and beginning on Monday, August 8, Phase II will begin. It’s anticipated the next two phases could take approximately 6-8 weeks to complete. During this time, we will not be able to occupy the basement. It is extremely important we address this space thoroughly and correctly for the health of our students and staff. This second phase will include:

  • removal of drywall and treatment and sanitation of structure underneath,

  • cleaning, sanitizing, and temporarily storing non-porous items,

  • disposal of porous items,

  • removal and cleaning of lockers, and

  • removal of floor tiles.

Once this is completed, furniture and classroom items will be returned and any necessary re-construction will start.

We still intend to start school on-time and in person for all students. Not having access to the basement will raise challenges. However, I am confident we will be able to work together to overcome these. We are working on a plan to relocate those classes in the basement to temporary locations throughout the building. In order to do so, cooperation from everyone will be important. Once a final plan is developed it will be shared.

Please note, as this second phase begins, we will have to modify other aspects of our daily routines. As these come up, we will share them as well.

Again, thank you to everyone for their cooperation and patience during this hectic and challenging time! I’m continually reminded of the great people we have in the Ridgeview School District!
